Why they say goodbye and hang up is someone has already answered. These robo calls dial different numbers and if someone picks up they drop the rest on that call. And the reason they keep calling back is they have your number and the robocall just keeps calling back til you are the first to answer and then they go into their pitch.

I am on the DO NOT CALL list...phone rang, when I answered, you could hear people talking in the background, knew that it was a call center. Then it said goodbye. I called it back 2 times, it rang busy. Third time a woman answered said is this Pam Hansen, yes I said, started talking fast and giving me her sales pitch on auto insurance. I stopped her right there, said how did you get my number, my name and I don't want what you are selling, don't call again.

Received a call and ignored; they left no message. Called back and it was someone talking about insurance quotes and calling me by someone else's name.
