Called ten or fifteen minutes ago. Phone rang only once. Googled it and there were like five different explanations for it. What the heck?! Almost seems horror movie type thing to me...

Man said they were calling for Oklahoma Highway Patrol
(405) 231-3175
called 11.40 and it isn't the first time by far. Sounded like a man's voice very faintly in the background but didn't say anything understandable and hung up. They could be calling checking phone numbers that work, don't know really...

got phone call from this number about 5:15pm. shows PAI on caller ID. When I called the number back, I man's voice answered stating that I had reached the office and to please leave a message. Does anyone know who or what this is?

A man was on the phone and said he was with the Oklahoma Highway patrol and wanted to send me a bumper sticker along with an envelope to send in a contribution. I told them I was not interested and he was insistant, so I hung up on them.

called today when I was at work and did not leave a message. I do not have any debt so I am going to go to the do not call list and turn them in. My number is registered already. If every one goes to the Do Not call list and files a cpmplaint then maybe something will be done? They need to leave a message if they want something such as money from someone.

RESEARCH INFORMATION FOUND FOR: 405-231-3175 (IMPORTANT! BE SURE TO READ ALL OF THIS!)The phone was ringing as I was coming in the door on Saturday afternoon (8-16-08). I couldn't get to the phone before it went to voice mail, but the caller left no message. The area code is for Oklahoma, and the prefix (231) used to indicate the location of the caller was somewhere in the downtown business district of Oklahoma City. However, in addition to the fact that downtown Oklahoma City is being (and has been) renovated - in part, to get ready to be the home of our first NBA team (which means there is now a large number of residential units downtown now), one must also consider that you can't count on the prefix to give you an "area of town" anymore because people can move across town now and keep their old numbers.Because I don't like it when someone calls and leaves no message, I DID A BACKGROUND SEARCH AND ANALYSIS OF THE PHONE NUMBER WHICH WAS USED TO CALL MY HOUSE. What I learned about ***405-231-3175*** is outlined below:The number is a land-line (not a cell phone), and the provider is listed Southwestern Bell (which was purchased by and renamed AT&T).The person listed as the "owner" of that phone number is:"WHITNEY PARKER." (The Caller I.D. showed "PAI" as the name - nothing else. The address the phone company lists for this person is as follows:325 N.E. 3rd STREETOKLAHOMA CITY, OK 73104 I Googled the address and it shows to be the location of the following business:GRINNELL FIRE PROTECTION Certainly, it's possible this was nothing more than a mis-dialed number. However, because so many other people have reported receiving suspicious calls from this number, and because I happened to be in a situation that permitted me to check and verify the information, I thought I would post it here in hopes of helping other people. As a nearly life-long resident of Oklahoma City, I can confirm that the 73104 zip code would definitely match with the N.E. 3rd street address, which would be on the edge of downtown Oklahoma City. Also, as mentioned before, the telephone prefix of "231" would also point to this location of the city.In this forum as well as others, some people have listed them as Telemarketersand others have listed them as a collection agency. If you are getting calls from them and you do not have any kind of relationship with them, I would suggest registering your home, work and cell phone numbers with the National "Do Not Call" list. Here's the link to do that: https://www.donotcall.gov/Please bear in mind if this IS a collection agency (or any other business trying to collect a debt like a credit card payment, etc.) the "Do Not Call" list won't help you because you WOULD HAVE a relationship with that company. If it IS a Telemarketing company, you can get the information from the web site listed above to file a complaint with the government to stop the calls (there is a pretty stiff fine for companies that call people registered on that list.) You only have to register ONCE. It's not necessary to re-register every year.NOW THE MOST IMPORTANT PART:People everywhere should be aware that there is software available to everyone that allows a caller to call from one number, but have the caller I.D. of the person they are calling show ANY NAME AND PHONE NUMBER THEY WISH!I know for certain this is true, as I have used it on a trial basis within the last couple of months or so. All you have to do is type in the number (JUST THE NUMBER) that you want displayed on the caller I.D. of the person or company you want the recipient to THINK is calling them, and Ma Bell does the rest. For example, if you key in the telephone number of McDonald's restaurant (JUST THE PHONE NUMBER), the caller I.D. of the person you are calling will not only show McDonald's phone number, but it will also display the name! In this case, it will display, "McDonald's Hamburgers" (or however it would normally display if someone was calling you from a McDonald's), followed by their telephone number! The ramifications of this kind of software program boggles the mind! As an example, let's say a person is trying to dodge a call from a credit card company just until payday when they will be able to pay the bill. (BTW, I'm NOT recommending that people do this - it's just an example.) So, for two weeks the person doesn't answer any calls where the number on the caller I.D. is unknown. With the software available now, all the credit card company would have to do is get the person's spouse's work number from their files and make it look like a wife or husband is calling from work!I don't know if it is legal for businesses to do this or not, but so far, I haven't seen what is legal or not legal stop people from doing anything they wanted to do to get money from people who perhaps couldn't afford it.Now, that being said, it needs to be noted that people should PAY their bills every month and ON TIME! However, if a person's child dies, or life-threatening diseases put the bread winner in the hospital for two weeks stopping the paychecks from coming in (I've experienced both of those situations - and more), a person can get behind in payments, etc. When something like that happens - CALL THE CREDITORS! Most of them will work something out. ANYTHING IS BETTER THAN JUST NOT BEING REACHABLE BY THE COMPANIES WE OWE MONEY TO! That looks very bad to the creditor, and it will make it much harder the next time you try to buy a car or apply for credit, etc.Folks, I realize this is a long post, but I hope it turns out to be helpful for someone.Good Luck!Tom
