I have been receiving calls for the past three weeks around 6pm - very damn day. When I answer they hang up. I never went to Amherst. I'm paying the extra $5 a month to block them.

FWIW,The UMASS Alumni Association doesn't make calls asking for money, the UMASS Annual Fund does and they are separate operations. Calls for donations to the Annual Fund are made by students on work study programs. In other words, they earn their scholarships working in the UMASS call center. I personally enjoy it when they call as we always have a friendly chat about what's going on back at Amherst and relating some stories from my UMASS days and I make a small donation (seriously, whatever you're willing to give, they're thankful for.). Don't understand why some of you non-alumni are getting calls, though.

My sister received a call from someone at UMass- where I graduated from a few years ago? My sister never went to UMass and is not listed on any of the paperwork I have from the university. I called the Perkins Loan people to make sure it wasn't someone there trying to get in touch with me and they said they never called. So at this point it must be someone from the Association. They called and specifically asked for me, and hung up when my sister was like... I wasn't there and who are you? Very cryptic. Very annoying. Not a great way to solicit donations.

I don't have any information on these calls, because I never answer the phone for them. BUT, 1. They don't leave a message, which is the policy of telemarketers. 2. I doubt it's a UMass student, because all college students today have a cell phone. 3. I don't know anyone at UMass. I haven't known anyone there for a long time. 4. I did recently get junk mail from UMass asking for a donation.I have donated to UMass in the past. I got a great education there. But unless someone can give some contrary information, I'll have to assume that this was a telemarketing call, and my policy is to not donate to any charity that uses telemarketing. Not today. Not in 100 years.PS: This is the 2nd call I've gotten from them this month.
