This is a legitimate phone number, but that doesn't mean the number you see on your telephone wasn't s****ed (faked). If you are not sure, after you receive this call, you can always pass the call to your voicemail and immediately call the NYS department of labor back at 877-358-5306 or 888-209-8124 and tell them you missed their call. They will have your information. You'll have to wait on hold, but it's a small price to pay for not having to worry about handing over your SSN.
(518) 438-6630
My husband called the NY Dept of Labor and pressed a variety of numbers. Shortly after, while on the phone with a Head ***ter he got the call waiting signal. The current call was more important so he didn't answer it. It was this number 518-438-6630 that called. It seems it is phone robot. He said it kept calling every 12 minutes till he called the Dept of Labor and canceled it. (not sure what number that was) I think Keith Triplett got it right in that it is not a number you can call directly. I agree with Dawn that it would be creepy to give my SS number to someone that calls me, but it is so hard to get through to the Dept of Labor that you talk to any human you can ...Good luck all of you in your job searches.

This is NYS Labor, The message left kwons about my case.I also belive the number is to the outgoing 800 lines from NYS Labor, that's why you can't call it back
(518) 438-6630
This number is the NYS Dept of Labor. My friend calls me on lunch break and when I try to call back, it is busy. They do that intentionally since everyone has caller ID and the call back line will not necessarily route you to the correct person. I would call back on the general information line since they are probably trying to get a hold of you. I still would give any information like SS# unless you called them. Just my opinion.

I also got a call from this guy about an issue with my Unemployment, like you I tried to call back but it's always busy. I feel quite certain he's legit after our conversation but I would like to call him back and can't reach him. Did anyone get anything other than his first name? or a return phone #

This Dan called me today in the morning and I missed the call and waited for a message. He said he was from the NYC State Labor Dept and also gave a 888 number to call back at. Like all of you, I'm waiting for unemployment to be given to me from losing my last job and it's been 3 weeks now, and now I don't know if this guy is legit or is it so****ing else entirely.

I recieved a call from this number claiming to be from New York Unemployment and asked a lot of questions to which I gave answers to. I was asked to verify my social security number as well. When I googled this number I found this site. Now I am worried that it was a scam and that my personal information has been compromised
