They claimed to have a bad line - which they did but they knew it was a bad line. Obviously wanting me call them back. I did not.

Caller left message on a Sunday to return call to Census bureau. Number to call back was 866-208-6551; not listed as gov't agency. Number that left message was 520-798-4152 - search had lots of spam hits

I don’t answer calls I don’t recognize. I’ve had several that say they are the US Census Bureau. I always delete the messages.

5/21/16 This is legit. Census Bureau quality control check following up mail-in questionnaire. The guy had all the information correct, name address, occupants. It was just a deeper dive into where each occupant lived. No improper or personal questions were asked (such as SSN)

Interesting, reading these comments. I got 2 calls today from this number, and 2 calls from 240-420-6029. The first call came from the 240 number, and left a robo-message telling me to call them back at another number with an 877 area code. The other 3 calls didn't leave messages. I agree with those of you who are saying the Census Bureau does not conduct business by phone, as I have been a parti****nt in a long term Census Bureau survey IN MY HOME for 18 months. The Bureau employee always has plenty of identification, and they always ask the same questions from a form. NONE of the questions ask for anything that could be used in iden***y theft. The purpose of the survey is to track unemployment figures, as well as "no longer looking" figures, so the gov't can tell us the economy is getting better. If these other characters keep calling, I will keep rejecting their calls. I will not answer and I will not cooperate. Frankly, I believe the CIA, FBI, NSA, IRS, etc., already know everything there is to know about all of us. I believe it was Thomas Jefferson who said there should be a revolution with each new generation. We're a couple ***dred years overdue. And, yes, I expect the men in black will be knocking at my door for writing this... IF they even let me post it!

They HARRASSED ME with PERSONAL PRIVATE Financial Bills & Private HEALTH QUESTIONS; which I believe is A***NST the LAW. And our PRIVATE data is our own business. The crooks making these calls OR the State/Federal Gov do NOT own me. We have rights to preserve our HEALTH RECORDS PRIVACY. They called 3-4 times. And said they would not ask PRIVATE questions but they did. And they when I refused....they stated snottily Are you saying "you want me to put down you refused?" as if I would go to Prison or Jail or so****ing. I do not swear and I rarily get VERY angry. But, I am so TICKED so very ANGRY at this lying survey manipulative and degrading people or gov whatever this is, that was TRYING to force me to answer PERSONAL PRIVATE information over the phone. I told them I WILL CALL THE COPS IF YOU COME TO MY DOOR to verify you are truly with a Census and even then I will NOT answer private HEALTH QUESTIONS it is a***nst Private HEALTH RECORDS as stated by Health Record LAWS...I believe that is HIPPA. ok...now I have cooled down; but if someone does NOT stop this INVASION OF TOTAL PRIVACY we are headed for ANARCHY with someone using this data to manipulate thier campaigns or agendas.

520-798-4152 is a scam. The US census does not conduct surveys this way.

Just because the number is a legit Census number, doesn't mean the call originated there. Got this call and was ask about my son and and daughters and ask where they worked ask about who son ***her was and if he was in military  my son is 15 ask where he was born could not harldly understand caller

This number is legit: 520-798-4152      I got a survey call from it for the Consumer Expenditure Survey,  I was su****ious because when I looked it up on google it pointed me to this thread, but when I called the number above a message referred me to a census call center ( 1-800-642-0469) number.  I verified that 800 number on the census website (http://www.census.gov/npc/contac*****tml ) and called there, where an operator confirmed that the 520 number above was legit and that I listed as a randomly selected household for this particular survey.  If you have any doubts you should call the call center at the 800 number above to confirm.

*******S!!!  I got another (I received a million of these calls on my cell) call today and told the older man that this was a scam and that he is working for a shell company based in Chile trying to get info.  he totally said NO I WORK FOR THE CENSUS and I get my checks from the US CENSUS.  I said of course you do, that's why you are calling me on my CELL PHONE to get info that I ALREADY sent in to the REAL CENSUS!  He said "ma'am we are not asking for your social security number" I said of course not,  you are asking for my full name, CORRECT address, where I was born, and other valuable info to get all the basics to find out all my info.  So it looks like you are legit, but I can see past that.  he just kept saying he was legit  and I really think he thinks he is....POOR POOR old man!  I said you can believe what ever you want, but just do this...go home tonight and in your comfy chair, google the number you are calling me from...520-798-4152 and see what happens.....I PRAY THAT HE DOES THIS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  he will maybe think twice about saying he is from the US Census after that!

I recieved a call from this number on my CELLPHONE! I also recieved a call from 812-218-3144 on my cell phone. That is definitely information I don't give out!

i got the same phone calls,   they wanted to verify info on my census form.  but when i told them i didn't give personal info to anyone over the phone, they became belligerent and insisted i give them the info.  i have contacted the census bureau....first to see if it's legitimate and then to file a complaint about the people who have called me.  when i called the numbers on the caller i.d., the answering ma****e told me that i had "reached a non-800 telephone number at the USCB".  i still don't believe it without the census bureau telling me it legitimate.

I got a call today I got a call from Tuscan, AZ, a woman saying that this is the cenus bureau doing asurvey re:case #.  This is definitely a scam!  Beware everyone out there-no way should anyone give information over the phone.

I gt this call daily. Today the female caller identified herself as the United States Census Brueau.  The number is from Tuscon, AZ.  I didn't know that the Census was in Tuscon.  Probably too much snow in DC this year??

I got this phone call just recently (Feb 8th '09, Sunday around 12:45 believe it or not).  I didn't answer it and let my ma****e get it (since I don't answer any numbers I don't know) and it was a man telling me to call the U.S. Census Bureau regarding a survey from the National Science Foundation.  I saved the message thinking it was important possibly.  I ended up getting a similar call from a 812-218-3144 number today actually.  I got it at 3:00pm, one around 4:15pm, and one at 8:09pm (which they decided to finally leave a message at that point).  The message was a woman, and so obviously fake (she was laughing as she was leaving the message).  I checked this one a***nst the one I got on Sunday and they both matched in information, so I figured this call was a fake as well (although the man sounded more professional than the woman did)

Just got a call male, (520)798-4152.  He claimed to be from the US Census Bureau.  Asked if this residence was in New York.  Then wanted to know my address.

Answered call; woman said she was from the census bureau and wanted to verify my address.  The address she gave did not match my address.  She said that because the info was incorrect we were not eligible for the current survey.  She asked me for my correct address.  I told her I preferred not to give out that info.  She that was fine and we ***g up.
