Same as the other caterers comments... all contact was via email initially. He wanted to throw a surprise 65th birthday party for his mother. Was told he was ready to pay the deposit. We sent an invoice and then didn't hear from him. Today he texted and said he attempted to call (although we have no missed call). Decided to do a search for his number and found these similar stories.

It started with email. Sometimes text. Today he called me for the first time.. We are a caterer in Maine. He said he wanted to throw a surprise 65th birthday party for his mother. He said we could not process his credit card through Square, PayPal, Venmo or Cash App. He wanted us to sign up for Clover Merchant Services. So the whole thing smells of scam.
