The 559 area code, encompassing a population of around 2.4 million people across six counties, is characterized by a diverse demographic and a relatively young community. With the largest group identifying as White at approximately 63%, this area also includes significant Hispanic representation. The median household income has shown consistent upward trends but remains below the national average, indicating economic challenges despite a dynamic workforce and community life. Fresno County is notably the most populated within this area code.

Wireless/mobile complaints peaked in 2017 but have generally decreased, paralleling broader economic trends. VOIP saw a sharp rise in 2021, mirroring similar spikes in prerecorded voice call complaints that year. Unwanted and telemarketing calls showed a dramatic peak but have seen a subsequent decline. You might want to actually answer this call. In my case, the IRS received a payment for taxes and had to verify that it was supposed to be applied to my account (two last names).

Rec'd a call on my cell phone from a Joyce Denison-Ramirez on 7/20/10, she said she was with the IRS and asked if she was speaking to Keith; I answered yes. She asked me to verify the last 4 of my SSN and then explained that she wanted me to fax a copy of a previous year's tax return to a Fax # 559 458-7906. She gave her direct desk phone # as 559 458-7474, and 559 ***-6000 was the # showing on my cell phone. (I had entered my cell phone # on my tax return, so I was not completely surprised to get such a call on my cell.) I then called the IRS @ 1-800 847-4084 & spoke with an IRS employee who identified himself as "Mr. Armstrong # 1305698". I asked Mr. Armstrong to verify that Joyce Denison-Ramirez was actually an IRS employee and he WAS able to verify that a note had been placed on my account about a recent conversation with me, where the IRS was seeking a previous year's tax return (jives). He wasn't able to verify the specific desk phone # or the specific fax #, though he DID explain that the IRS has a lot of phone numbers in California that s**** with 559 458-****. Mr. Armstrong did say that the call sounded legitimate, though he seemed surprised that an IRS employee did not use her name AND her NUMBER for identification purposes.

They call three or four times back to back and leave no message...just a steady beep signal. When you call the number back you get the "number is out of service" so someone is just s****ing a number ttrying to get your personal info. No message-no callback.

So I took the advised of Disclosure from another blog and dialed 559-***-6002 the lady I spoke to indicated that she was with the IRS, so I asked about the 559-***-6000 number, she indicated that it is not a number****ociated with the IRS, and that a number would not show up on a caller ID rather it would say Federal Government. I asked her if she would also****ume that the number is fraudulent and she said yes. She indicated too that in very rare cases would the IRS call, but they would leave a message. There has never been a message left on either my home or cell number. Also in my opinion if it is the IRS, then why would they ask me for my SSN and DOB as they already have the information? I would request that they be the ones to verify it.
