This is a scam! I have a prepaid cell and have not used Skype EVER! I recently received an even stranger call from a number in Florida (305) 514-0441 and following that call found out my identity had been stolen. Had to close my bank accounts and put fraud alerts on all 3 major credit bureaus. If someone does not believe this is SPAM they are kidding themselves.

I received a call today from a person with a foreign sounding (African? Bahamian? Guianian? Trinidadian?) accent who appeared, after I answered, to be unsure of what to say next. In the background, I could faintly detect a male voice quietly coaching him on his next statement. I immediately recognized this as a scam telemarketer and at that point, I pressed the 'end call' button. Some of these scams are programmed to get you to answer yes to ANY question which gives them the authority to rob you blind in some fashion when they present this "verbal authorization" to a lending or banking institution. Be aware. Hang up at once. Report the number to the FCC

This number came up on a cell phone under missed calls, since we do not answer any calls listed as "unknown" or "number not available" and the like. We figure if people don't want us to see who they are, they're doing something illegal, or unethical, or have other reasons to hide who they are. Have looked up this number on multiple sources - reverse directories and the like - and they all have the same thing in common; they warn against answering any call from this specific number as it being a scam, a SKYPE trunk number, a VOIP or Magic Jack number, and so on. Under SKYPE, it has been reported as coming from Africa, S. Korea, Bakersfield, CA, USA, and other locations, including Russia. It is not worth answering. Problem is, they should be reported to the FCC and the FBI but having tried to report callers who break the "do not call list," we got responses from the FCC about how they really cannot do anything. So what's the point? And trying to report these same scam artists to the FBI is a monumental waste of time. "If you see something, say something" is a good slogan; too bad the FBI doesn't take it as seriously as those of us who repeatedly get calls from scam artists. The FBI should be all over these people, or make it easy to report them, so their compute power can aggregate the numbers and find patterns, numbers of times that these people make phoney calls, and the like but, again, they seem not to care. Nor does Homeland Security. We, out here, are simply too many soft targets for them to try and analyze. I would offer them my own services - I'm a computer analyst, systems analyst - but they wouldn't think of taking help from a so-called civilian. Bottom line is protect yourselves. Don't answer calls where the caller blocks Caller ID from reporting who they are. If they have something to hide, you should have nothing to give them or say to them. Be careful, folks.
