Left a message about my 2021 returns. Left an 800 number to call back but only 9 digits, 800-829-440

Positively NOT the IRS. After wasting a 1/2 of my time on the phone with and actual IRS agent by calling the phone number on an actual IRS notice today 10/10/23 they informed me that this number is definitely a scammer!

Left a brief message. Knew my name. Said from IRS. Would call back in 15 minutes.

The voice was difficult to understand and the written transcript equally non understandable, the transcription of the voice to written version is all broken. Left two phone numbers to call, which are incomplete. I called back to this spam number, and there is short three words messages impossible to understand

Called wanting info on our amended return. Total scam

DID NOT VERIFY whether or not I was even POA or preparer or CAF#. Called with ID number and Agent name, requesting a specific form with first and last name of target. No connection to any tax notice, did not request a specific year. Requested we fax it to her at a fax number given.

a lady around 9:30 PM local time in KCMO which shows 10:30 PM, VA time asked to talk with one client who lives in a different state. Since this is a very sensitive matter, and I am not sure if the call originated from a real IRS employee, I reported this issue to the client in order to call the IRS, so I clear my office from anything such as suspicious Fraud done by my office.

They said it is regard of my inquiry and etc etc so they want my full name and I said well if you form IRS you should have everything and I told them IRS never called so they said ok then they will send me a letter (I think it’s never gonna come)

This is a conservator from the IRS and this is for (named me and my wife). Could you please call us back at 1-800-829-7650 and please do so at your earliest convenience. I'm just responding for your power of attorney, who called in on 12 January. Have a good day.

calling about alleged audit and correspondence from October 2022…long delay between pickup and response as with a boiler room, but no background sounds or other voices. she seemed hesitant and as if reading from a script.

She identified herself as Miss King and was calling about my 2021 payroll returns - some kind of problem but, she wouldn't say what until I verified my information. She had the last four of my EIN and asked me for the rest. Knowing the safety rule "Unless YOU call the en***y, you shouldn't give out private information", I said I wasn't comfortable with that and told her to send a letter instead.

Caller said her name was, Miss Ray, and gave me her ID number:1002076600. Said she was from the IRS and was calling about a letter I sent. True - I had sent a letter to the IRS. She wanted my Social Security number. She sounded very legitimate - I said I would not give her my SS number and then she said she would give me the last 4 digits and I should give her the first five. She had a lot of information about me. I came very close to doing this - so glad I refused. I asked her to send me a letter and she said she would. Think I dodged a big bullet.
