This is a call from an inmate who is incarcerated with an institution that uses GlobalTel for their phone communication. You can set up an account through Global Tels websites, or you can go to JPAY.COM and put money on the prisoners account and then they can get calling cards. Global Tel is a RIPOFF and from what I have heard, they are extremely good at scamming people. I sent money to my husband and just had him get calling cards and it works easier. Global Tel itself I would consider SPAM, but the prisoners that are calling, are not. This number is associated to prisoners in MA, PA, TX, GA and more.

When called from a lock-up, I am charged an exorbenant amount to speak to the caller. You are forced to use a credit card to get 25,50 or some amount of pre-paid calls to make it bearable. The money not used is not returned and held for ninety days. Once you prepay you cannot accept a call and have it charged to the home phone,again. It is is extortion plain and simple.

If you know someone in prison then they are trying to call you. They have to use a service called Global Tel. It is so they can call you if you have a cell phone number and no phone number.

The number even though it says Houston, it isn't. It can be coming from anywhere in the US. I have a family member in a jail in Michigan and the Houston number comes up. You can have them blocked by calling that Craig guy listed above in one of the posts. He blocked our number.

I got a call from this number at 9:10 this morning but didn't get to the phone to answer it. They left no message.Then at 9:19 my husband called who is an inmate in Oklahoma from the usual number he calls from 866-800-0234(GTL). He said he hadn't try to call earlier. I got curious who had called so I checked my caller ID and it was this 713 number. I got on the internet to see who it could have been and found out a lot of people are having problems with this.My suggestion would be to call GTL and let them know. I've only had the one call so far but if it continues I don't want to block inmate calls because it may block my husband's call, too. We have been getting these calls for the past week and it is very annoying at they will call several times in a row. There is never anyone on the line except that the number does not accept collect call. Then there is a message about Global Advance Money SavingIsn't there a way to block a particular phone number for even reaching your number. We are on a do not call list. In addition they have started calling my son's cell phone too.

if you want to stop the calls dont hang up on them, you can block department of corrections calls if you listen to the options and follow the instructions. and it doesnt matter what state the inmate is housed in, all calls are routed through the global tel link communications center. i got two brothers in different prisons who call from the same number.

This # is the service that inmates have to use to make their collect calls. If u get this call, its best to answer, wait until the automated/operator person starts talking, WHILE the operator is talking, talk OVER them and tell the inmate they have the wrong number. THEY CAN HEAR YOU. Inmates often dial the wrong number, or call a number that used to belong to a friend or relative but doesnt anymore, or sometimes they even just dial random numbers for someone to talk to. However, I dont suggest YELLING at the inmate!! By answering the phone and talking over the operator, you are not accepting charges. The only way to accept charges is by following the prompts (I.e "Press 1 to accept charges"). Hope this helps.

Numerous calls over the past three months. Finally had enough and picked up the phone yesterday and followed directions to block caller. Needless to say that did not work! The calls have continued. Only now they hang up when I pick up the phone. Finally, today I used my cell phone to call the number to lodge a complaint and instantly an immediate message was delivered to me "this number is not in service". I tried two other times with the same results. I don't know what sort of surprises to expect on my bills (would you believe that my phone is ringing this instant and it is from Global Tel and I have a collect call from an inmate named Chris at ? (disconnected). Now it is ringing again!!!) The same message all over again!!! and disconnected!! What am I to do to stop this insanity??? That was the 8th call today.
