A female caller claimed to want to discuss a recent retirement application and requested the last four digits of the Social Security number and birth date. The recipient declined to provide this information and was advised to call the SSA's 1-800 number for verification, which raised suspicion. It should be noted that the SSA typically does not use personal numbers for such calls.

Wife recently applied for SS. Asked wife for personal info to verify identity, then gave a dubious fax# to fax medicare forms to, and a voice callback number. Voice #turned out to be fake, a company selling something.

Asked for the last 4 of my SS and my birth date. I declined to give it and stated I wasn't comfortable with the call. I was told to call the SSA's 1-800 number and I could call her back.

She was calling to get more information about my overpayment case. I was skeptical at first but she erased a $24,000 overpayment and began my monthly payments a***n because of an error that's social security disability had made. She is 100% legitimate and any calls coming out of that number IS social security. I have done a lot of investigating on it and it is the real thing
(718) 557-3000
I have an application in process. She left a voicemail asking me to call her back. I called the local SSA office and discovered that the call was legitimate.

Announced she was Social Security. Very thick accent and very bad attitude. I questioned her and she became angry. She insisted I had to answer her questions. Since I voiced my suspicion, she was trying to give me another number to call. NO WAY! Hung up on her. What scared me is she knew I had just been on SS website recently, knew the date and time. How is that possible?

Called from the 718 number and left a 1-866-226-2306 number. Unfortunately we fell for it and called back. They took a lot of personal info (ssn, date of birth and name). They are preying on those of us who are already stressed out about this whole filing process. Should be illegal!

Woman represented herself as being from SSA and processing my Medicare application. I happen to have one in process and provided some personal info. I normally would not. I have since lit up SSA, Credit Bureaus, banks, credit cards and law enforcement agencies with the information. I agree with an earlier observation that someone at SSA is leaking info. or the SSA data has been breached.
(718) 557-3000
just got call said SSA. Jamaica plains NY. if a scam its been going at least 4 years. they are sending letter.
(718) 557-3000
My client says he received a call from this number identifying themselves as Social Security and asking to confirm his bank account number. Ironically, he has been waiting for a decision on his appeal to Social Security and they told him he would be receiving a letter shortly.
(718) 557-3000
The next time that # calls you, you should answer !!! I was owed ALLOT of money from my fathers SS benefits, almost 10 years worth. I received a very large check yesterday and I gotta tell you, I am very glad that I did answer that call......
(718) 557-3000
I received a letter from SSI a few weeks ago asking me to update my name, address and telephone # so they can contact me regarding owed benefits to me from my fathers disability benefits he received almost 20 years ago. I did fill it out and mailed it back. Today I received a missed phone call from 7185573000. I tried to call it back but it was always busy. I Googled the # and found this website and found another # to reach Ms. Parker. I called her and she did verify that the # that called me earlier was to verify the information that I filled out and mailed back to SSI. As per SSI, I am going to be receiving a check. If I receive that check I will follow up on this post in case this isn't a scam. p.s. All I had to do was verify my name, address, # and social security # in order for the woman to tell me I was receiving a check. I didn't have a problem giving her that information by phone because my information was printed on the letter I received weeks ago. If it was a scam, I'm sure they wouldn't follow up upon receiving my response to the letter......but we'll see what happens.....
(718) 557-3000
Please stop these people. The number showed on my caller ID as US Government. I answered and may have confirmed info regarding a deceased person. I called the local FBI office and they were totally disinterested in my concern.
(718) 557-3000
I received a call from 718-557-3000, today, at about 5:15 PM. A woman (no name given) stated that she is from "Social Security" and is in receipt of my "Extra Help With Medicare Prescription Drug Plan Costs, you know, part D" application. And, furthermore, "... it is incomplete..." and would I mind if she helped me complete it over the phone. Immediately, my brain went into anti-phishing mode. Ah-ha, me thinks . . . Social Security Admin; unsolicited phone call; Jamaica, New York; wants to ask me some questions. Mmm, probably, she wants to phish for my social security number, date of birth, and so forth; all the darn info that is on my completed, electronic application. Now, she probably doesn't suspect that most of us, who have worked for Uncle Sam or have done business with the US Government, know that noncritical, daily business is done between the hours of 8:00AM and 4:30 PM. DUMMY! Not announcing her name and the office, branch, etc. she represents is a huge mistake, per government office protocol. Anyhow, cutting to the chase, she did try to social engineer me.Some of her questions and my answers follow. She asked, "Are you on Supplemental Security Income?" I answered, "no." "What is your date of birth?" I said, "read it off the form and I'll tell you if it is correct." She said she understood my concern for security and read off the date. I said "right." She should never have let me do that to her and security demands that she should have never read of the birth date to who-the-hell-knows, on the of other end of the phone line. The dead giveaway was when she asked for my wife's social security number. "Now," I thought, "no, no, no, no, I got you, for good, now." I gently answered with, "a, can you send me some sort of paperwork to check out and send back to you." She answered with a definitive "no." At this point, she closed our conversation with, I'll send you a letter directing you to visit your local Social Security office, for help.I'm not sure if this woman was on to me, but I was on to her. From my point of perception, this was a phishing scam, and a poor one at that. However, unsuspecting folks will fall for it.
(718) 557-3000
no message and when I tried to dial it, I got a message saying no such number existed. very suspicious.
(718) 557-3000
It is a BOGUS number!! Don't fall for it. A scam, give NO information over the phone. Call your local SSA and make an inquiry. Do NOT use this number to call back or contact.

It's a legit number for the Social Security office in Jamaica, Queens. I got a call with no message left, and it was from my child's daycare located in that building. It's a call-out number for the building.
(718) 557-3000
I have received several calls from 718 557-3000 but the caller hangs up before I can get to the phone. No messages were left by any of them. I filed for SSA benefits just before the calls happened. It appears to be a scam alright and appears that our SSA information has been compromised with the banking information that was collected by SSA website. FBI should be contacted as well as the Inspector General for SSA if there is one. I'll investigate and report it.
(718) 557-3000
I was called at 6:15 A.M. on a Saturday morning, from a woman claiming to be from S.S.,implying there was some money leftover in SS after my mother's death and she needed my SS#. To me this smelled of a scam, what government employee would call you at 6:00 on a Sat.morning? All state and federal offices are closed on the weekends to my knowledge.
(718) 557-3000
This probably is a legitimate trunk line srvicing multiple offices for the Social Security Admin (SSAN) in greater NYC/Jamaica, NY. I received four calls before someone left a first name and different (866 area) number to return a call-back. 718 is an area code assigned to NYC, NY. Jamaica is a large town in the bourrough of Queens, on Long Island. I made a series of calls, never was able to determine the veracity of the caller, but found that by calling the Social Security Admin's national 800 number, I could correct/complete/verify etc any of their needs without responding to the original caller's phone number. I recommend anyone receiving calls from this 718/866 combo call or visit SSAN. If you call, use their 800 number. They should be able to help/verify/complete claims, etc.

My husband has been receiving numerous calls from this number several times per day, at first leaving no msg on voice mail. Then, Friday, March 6, a woman left a msg stating she had a substancial sum of money to deposit from Social Security and needed my husbands' bank account number so the deposit could be made.Today, March 9, another woman who identified herself as Dorothy Parker, or Packer left a similar msg and two phone numbers we were to use to call back. Both are numbers from New York. (718) 557-4692 and (718)557-3114. The caller ID number was (718) 577-3000. That number does not answer. The (718) 557-4692 number was picked up on the 2nd ring, by the person above. She said,"Social Security Administration, this is Dorothy Parker (Packer?)"I hung up.Very suspicious, I went to the New York Social Security website to try to find offices with these phone numbers. Of course all the numerous phone numbers provided by Social Security are TOLL FREE. We live in Oregon.Meanwhile, my husband at work was calling the toll free number for SSA and they could not find any information about the claim currently in process other than it has not been finalized. And they were puzzled by the phone contacts we have been receiving.I am contacting the FBI, very serious scam going on...Advise anyone receiving this type of call to report it immediately, and above all do not reveal any personal information.

Caller said they were from Social Security and had correct info about benefits about to be received and was looking for banking information to deposit it. Thank goodness my father doesn't have the banking information. I put a security alert on his credit report just to be safe and am reporting the fraud to social security's inspector general.
