Criminals impersonating AMEX. Tried to get Social Security number under pretext of verification. AMEX never does this

This is a spam caller.

Spam - Person called my phone. I didn't answer. Called another family member and identified himself as American Express Associate. Said he had called the other number as a backup. AmEx is not affiliated with this phone number. Be Ware of this number (801) 945-5000

claims to be AMEX but they are not. They left a voicemail and there were beeps in the background. Also when you call the number back the recording is very hollow and noisy in the background. Call the number on the back of your AMEX card or on the Personal Savings website. DO NOT TRUST THIS CALLER!

This is deff AMEX,so you don't get scammed just call them back.Because as with any celly you can make your phone show any # b4 dialing anyone.....

It was Amex in Salt Lake City calling to confirm that I had applied for a credit card. I had not applied for a card, but someone had using my name. They never asked for personal information, this was a legit call.

This is a number for American Express. I applied for a card last week and I received an email message that they would call in a few days. I didn't answer the call, because I didn't recognize the number. Just look at your Internet search results and you will see the number.

Just received a call from this # to verify SS# at my office#. She clearly informed from AX. We were on recording call conversation,. I heard "beep" anytime she questioned and I answered. Hope that was not a scammer.

I also received a message on my cell phone from this number at 8:45 p.m. asking me to call an 800 number and giving me a reference number. I instead called American Express using the number on the back of my card. The first operator told me that there was no activity on my account and to disregard the call b/c it was not from them and might have been phishing. I mentioned that I submitted a request for a credit limit increase about a week ago and was then connected with that department. They confirmed that they did initiate the call.So it appears to be appropriate but American Express could certainly do a better job of handling situations like this.

This phone number is legitimate. Don't believe it? Call American Express via the phone number printed on the back of your American Express card. Ask them yourself.The people claiming this number is a scam are doing everyone a disservice.

This is a scam..Peopel are using the # to scam people out the information..It just happened to me. Do not give any information like my dumbass did..Im calling the FBI

Don't listen to the people that say it's legit.  They are part of the group who is trying to phish for information.  I had the same thing happen and verified 100% that the number is not legit.  The group of Indians that are running this scam did their homework and was able to associate the phone number to an American Express address but it is not legit and is a scam.  Don't be fooled by the people who say it's legit on this forum.

This is a legitimate phone number for Amex service center in Salt Lake City. (I called back to verify and spoke with a representative.)

I work for a service provider (providing services to Amex).  The number 801-945-5000 is the outbound number that shows up on caller id when someone from Amex calls out.  Even knowing this info I would still be hesitant to give out my personal information to someone who calls me asking for it.

This is American express for sure: I submitted an app to them last week; someone called from the number in question; I refused to give out info and the caller referred me to call 800 567 1083 to confirm. This number is listed on the American Express website as an applications line +an AMEX agent confirmed the call when I reached them. BTW- no one ever mentioned the patriot act.  I think the posting in June by "me" is not legit.

I got a call from that number as well and I, too, was connected to my bank to verify my address and account number.  I followed up by calling American Express after the call; they CONFIRMED that the call did indeed come from their Salt Lake City office.  I hope that's helpful.

I got a call from the same number they claimed to need verification of my company name and address for the patriot act, I said no thanks, hung up. And immediately called American express about this. They said it is not them. Probably scammers.Beware.
