About 804 Area Code:
In recent years, this region, spanning central and eastern Virginia, has been brimming with growth and cultural vitality. Area code 804 is anchored by Richmond and includes the vibrant communities of Petersburg, Mechanicsville, and Midlothian. Richmond’s prime location on the James River, positioned at the rocky fall line that divides Virginia’s Piedmont and Tidewater regions, has made it a pivotal center for commerce. Its strategic setting has historically facilitated trade and transportation through three key modes: boats, utilizing the Great Turning Basin; railroads, with the unique triple crossing of rail lines; and automobiles, with the convergence of two major interstate highways.
This central location has established downtown Richmond as a natural hub for economic activity. The city’s economy has been significantly shaped by its law and finance sectors, which have long been crucial drivers of its economic development. In early 2024, Richmond announced a significant development project for a new downtown arena. This project is set to replace the aging Richmond Coliseum and aims to create a modern venue that can host a variety of events, including concerts, sports games, and community gatherings.
