It's an automated system so if you heard nothing when you first picked up, it's because the notification hadn't kicked in yet.GameStop's reservation notification system is somewhat buggy and inconsistent at times though; most of the time when you reserve something it'll call you 24 hours before your order is available as a reminder and then every now and again it completely forgets to call you.

They also call from that number to announce release date delays. I just got a call saying littlebigplanet release is delayed because the game has Qu'ran audio in it, hah! So it's not "always" to let you know your pre-order is in.
