I'm curious.  Did anything come of this for either of you?  I, too, have gotten several phone calls from "American" threatening to serve me with legal papers.

i have also gotten this call. With mine they said they had a process server in my area of work and home but needed to verify my home address.  How can you have a process server in my area if you don't know where i live?  I called the number and all that came up with you have reached "american" and hung up when i got that message.  Very strange for a legit company to have that as there message when you call.  Probably a debt collector trying to scare you  to pay them or it is a phishing scam.  i would ignore it

I received a call that came up private number, a woman named Kitty Garcia left me a message stating that I wrote a bad check and that is illegal. I haven't had an nsf check in years so not sure what this is in regards too but she went on to tell me that what I am doing is illegal and that I have been notified because a formal complaint had been filed against me. She told me to call 855-769-9894 to speak to the complainant but did not say who it was, the amount the date or what is was for. I am leery to call this number back because with her nasty tone and her accusing me of illegal activity it just seems as though they were trying to scare me into giving them money and that it is possibly a scam. She also ended the message with the statement "you have officially been notified". First off since she never even spoke to me and was phishing for my home address in the message how is it I am officially notified when you don't even know if that is my phone number anymore. I don't believe this to be a valid debt and I sure don"t appreciate nasty or threatening tones.  Now since checking them out on the computer the private number has come up another 2 times on my cell.
