I put an item on craigs list and shortly after recieved messages from 1-408-337-2792 they wanted me to send them a verification code to make sure I was not "fake". A verification code was sent to my phone from #732873 and the text was in French. Luckily I did some research before I sent the code. If they get the code they are able to take over your number and phone. He tried bullying me saying he would take down my add as fake if I didn't send him the code. Watch out!!!!!!!

They then wanted to text me a code to see if I was legit. I told them I was the only one who was & I have never used a code to sell an item & I wasn't about to s**** especially with a scammer. Texted me as a buyer on CL with the usual legitimate questions: is it still available, best place to meet, etc. Then this person asks for you to send back a verification number sent from their "company number". This message was the red flag for me, "Check your phone and let me know the four digit numbers sent to you. It will also be written there do not trust any body that ask for this number"... This code was sent to me via a Seattle number (206) 535-1744 . When you don't respond back immediately this person becomes increasingly impatient. I made the mistake (?) of responding back with the first number, but there is another code that was sent in French stating "Merci d utiliser craigslist. Votre code de verification de I adresse email ********@live.com est ****x" This translates to "Thank you for using craigslist. Your verification code to I email address ********@live.com is ****x". Who knows what will happen next, but I will be following up on this for a little while, possibly c****ing my number so as to disarm this possible commandeering of my phone number for nefarious reasons.

Definitely a scammer. For me they tried to high jack my craigslist account by saying they wanted to send me a verification code so they knew I was legit. When the code was sent it was obviously from Craigslist and it is the type they send to verify account information or c****es. So I called them on it and they never responded a***n.
