Didn't call me, but sent a text. Asked if i was a guy. That's all. I deleted and blocked bc i have experience with those "dumb", and only-a-few-words texts. And all the receiver has to do is respond and that gives them just limited access to your information. And "just limited", which may only be "the owner of that number", but to them it's a response and a response from that number means they'll more than likely get a little more than the fact that the number has an owner that WILL respond. So while they're coming up with their next move, or what question they will have for you next time that you might actually answer or respond to, (bc don't forget, you responded to a "dumb" question from a number you didn't know but thought it was ok bc it had the same area code) well then, there's your mistake. "Limited" information that they can get might, in some cases, be only a number that won't ignore the text or hang up on the call. BUT, that also means that there's a chance you might actually OPEN the lines between you and them BY ANSWERING the call, or by SENDING A RESPONDING TEXT, and then it's done. You have now opened the line between your number and their number and that's when they (telemarketers, spam callers, student loan companies, etc etc,) start putting that number, YOUR number, on the web to others in the same field as they and there you go. That's what they do. That's their "job". They get paid by getting responses from any and all the numbers that they can get an access line to. All you have to do is respond. If you don't have that number in your contacts then there's a big chance you don't know them. You should not answer. If you recieve a "dumb" text, like asking you a question, from a number that is not in your contacts, if you HAVE to open it to read it bc you just can't resist, i can bet you it'll be a big mistake to send a response text. If just to ask "who is this?" or "you have the wrong number", then you've already made the mistake. If you understand what I'm explaining about potentially dangerous spam/telemarketer/con artists who are just waiting on your response to access more and more of your information with every answer or response calls and/or texts, then please tell your close friends and family- DO NOT ANSWER THOSE CALLS, AND DO NOT RESPOND TO THOSE "DUMB" TEXTS, because those "crooks" should not be able to access ANY of your personal information, and especially BENEFIT from it. And i CAN guarantee from experience, once they gain access, somewhere, and it could be from ANY KIND OF ACCOUNT you have with ANYONE YOU HAVE MADE AN ONLINE PURCHASE WITH, and EVEN A BANK ACCOUNT (if you have anything to do with your bank ONLINE,) example: the bank's APP. You can still see your account online WITHOUT downloading THE APP. Just go to the website, once you're on a page that will take you wherever you want to go on the site then just select in the top right corner the drop-down menu, then select ADD TO HOME SCREEN. You might get more access or whatever through the app, that would be up to you, but if all that extra stuff isnt necessary, all you need is that page to access your "stuff". You don't HAVE to download the APP. All this I've just talked about is only going to work for so long. These callers are getting better and better everyday at ways of gaining access and i have no idea how long this way of protecting youself from them will last until they find a way past that too. It's another day at work for them when they have your name and number on the list of potential "clients", (the numbers that said "hello?" or the numbers that responded with " you have the wrong number" fyi, some of those scammers, telemarketers, con artists, etc have something else to benefit them... some phone companies charge you per text, like when you buy MINUTES to be able to send texts or make calls, THOSE are the numbers they can TEXT and you don't even have to RESPOND for them to get an open line between you and them! All you have to do is READ the text! It's best to pay a monthly bill for your phone service than to buy time/minutes for your service. It's a very old and WISE statement that is very true to keep in mind... that for every advantage, there will always be a disadvantage. Good luck and thanks for reading.
