Glad I'm no the only person with this problem. I'm not gonna lie, I thought I was in some serious trouble when I got the call. I mean, I DO owe a little bit of money, but getting a call from a "Law Firm" kind of baffled me. He also did give me a case ID Number

IReceived a letter from this group abt September 2008, I eventually sent a letter after playing VM cat-and-mouse on my phone. I sent a certified letter requesting (information I recieved from a lawyer) that I needed validation and verification of the said debt. This was in regards to a health club in Rochester, which I hadnt attended in the prior year. I even had a doctors notice, because I had to drop out of college for medical reasons. I sent this letter on October 8,2008. They received the letter on October 14th. I waited a period of time, until November 4th, in which representative from this company called me back, left me a VM and said that the debt was correct and that creditor would not work out arrangement. I called company back and infomred company I would not pay this debt and according to the FDCPA, I still had not recieved written documentation form collector or original creditor. I last called them on 11/6/08 and informed them i still hadnt received the requested documentaion and at this point I have not heard from them since. Not sure if this is a good or bad thing, but i will not pay this membership due, as I wasnt going to this health club in the time frame they state I was.

I just received a call from a Ms. Turner, I live in Jacksonville, Florida and will contact the state attorney on this matter. All lawyers has to be register in order to process in the area that you live in. In addition I am sending this information to the do not call registry for harassing phone calls. And they can be be dealt with legally as well. I was given a case number also. My question is case number to what?yeyekari

Just received my first annoying call from this agency, a Mr Burton called stating I needed to contact him and passed a case number. A few years ago this was going on with some other companies, same issues. they find debt, but most of the time they have out of date information.

I also got a call from an "Otto" - someone else took the message as I wasn't home. He(?) left a call-back number, extension, dropped the name of the 'law office of Joe Curtis' and a case number. I suffer from a chronic and degenerative illness, so I'm pretty much unable to go out and cause trouble - so the attorney's office thing had me rattled until I read some of what you all wrote about your own experiences. I haven't done anything worthy of lawyers, unless I live a whole other (healthier) life in my sleep! If this is a collections thing, good luck to them. I can no longer work and do not own anything (no automobile, no home, no nothing), so there's nothing they can take.Is this something I should be worried about? What recourse do I have if they do try to come after me? Can they throw me in jail over whatever they say I owe? I'm pretty much dead as it is. Not sure what else I can lose, at this point.

A rather b*tchy voice mail from a Ms. Turner stating "this is 3rd and last documented call* to you. If I don't hear from you by 8:00 p.m. tomorrow, I will proceed w/ further debt collections and court procedures. Whatever. In Va., bill collectors CANNOT put a date/time limit with a "or else" attached to it.

I have to laugh at this guy. I guess he's trying to collect a $200 medical debt from me. I really don't think it's mine but who knows. It's from some diagnostic company from 3 years ago. But anyway, let's see, he's willing to take me to court and try to get a judgement on a $200 debt? Good luck buddy!!!! And when you get that judgement what are you gonna take from me. You gonna force the sale of my upside down house or maybe you want to take over the payments on my new lincoln. This guy is a joke!!!! My advise. "Don't pay a thing"! Tell him you're an attorney also and you'll see him in court, lol!

I work at a bank and this law office is who our collection agency uses if they can't get anywhere with our clients that owe us money. I work in Missouri so I don't know why they use a law office so far away but more than likely they are calling to try to collect a debt owed to another party and that party gave their consent to pursue legal action.

After a few harassing and ominous phone calls, I pressed 1 and got a person and proceeded to go off on the scammimg Carids. Two days after, I received a letter from this lawyer (if he really is a lawyer)stating my son owed 244.00 to an Auto Insurance Company that he NEVER had a policy with. I suspect he is scamming people. I will contact the better business bureau and see what they have to say.......I bet if he's even a real lawyer he will have many bad reviews with the BBB.

Calls excessively and late into the evening. This has been going on for about 4-5 months. Messages have gone from simple “please call regarding an important personal matter” to “If I do not reply by xyz then the case will be turned over to the court”. The names of the individuals leaving messages varies. The latest is Mrs. Jones at ext 7111. My cell has no personal message and I’ve put myself on various Do Not Call lists. So I have no idea why they even think I am of interest to them. When I did attempt to call back to get to the bottom of the annoyance, no one answers at the extension given, there was no voice mail and when I hit “0” for operator, it rings with no answer as well.Doing my research I’ve found this company listed on (so far) 4 different complaint forums. http://www.joelcardisllc.com/ is the link to their company website. They do collections (obviously). I advise anyone that is being harassed by this outfit to check with your state bar association to see if this person is even licensed to practice in your state. In Illinois where I live, he is NOT. I also found out he is not in Wisconsin as well. His office claims to be located in Pennsylvania. Below is their profile info. Be careful people. This is a scare tactic company that has lost legal battles against themselves for harassment. Don’t cave to their scams. A real court proceeding would come to you in the mail. I got a call last night from a "Mr. Otto". He also said this was his second time calling, which it was not. I would be interested to find out anything anyone finds out. I searched the BBB website and no business under The Law Office of Joe Curtis came up. There was a business called CCC Collections under a Chris Curtis, but their website didn't work so I couldn't tell if it was the same place.

I just got the same phone call and message - very unnerving. I was glad to find this discussion on-line. If anyone has luck getting this predatory caller to stop, please let me know how you did it. If it continues, i may contact my state attorney's office.

Received my call last night. "Ms Stevens" said this was her 2nd and last attempt to contact me and that if I didnt respond by COB Friday they would proceed with lawsuit. What lawsuit and who the HECK are you? I bit. Called back and of course no one answered. Left message that i would like to know time of other call as all my incoming calls are tracked. Vonage is wonderful! Will see what happens.

I keep getting this call to my cell phone. caller says I need a lawyer and that I should contact him right away. I assume this is a collection agency. They should not use this type to tactics to call someone. Im sure alot of people fall for this type of call.I wish there was a way to stop it.
