About 914 Area Code:
The term “old money” could easily be reserved for places like this. Westchester County is known as the American suburb, the first of its kind in the world, largely due to its upper-middle class communities that developed in the late 19th century. But it also has a dark and dramatic history, whose chapters include slavery, anti-Semitism, silent film stars, suffragettes, gangland violence, and assassinations. Many of its towns – including Yonkers, White Plains and New Rochelle – are a train ride away from New York City. But the county of one million people has also carved its own economic path.
Today, Westchester is home to a number of Fortune 500 companies, including MasterCard, PepsiCo and IBM. In the 21st century, Westchester County has seen the emergence of a thriving biotechnology sector, with over $1 billion in planned private investment as of 2016. But money isn’t the only thing this region has going for it. Its school system is also first-class. Westchester County is home to 48 public school districts, nearly 120 private college-preparatory and parochial schools, and 14 colleges and universities. Many of the public and private high schools consistently rank among the top in New York State and the nation.[
