Both my husband's and my cell phones started getting the infamous generations credit union msgs a couple days ago. After finding this forum and the very helpful suggestions on it, I blocked 9099 text msgs by signing onto my Sprint account, scrollled down, and clicked "Block text messages". Our phones have 2-way texting blocked, so I wasn't sure I would be able to use the method of texting to 9999. I also called Sprint to ensure that the above action applied to both phones, and spoke with a supervisor. The supervisor didn't seem aware of the 9099 problem but said she would forward a notice to the phishing dept. Thanks to all the helpful people who posted to this forum.

same as everyone else, called the number for pac bell, reported them. guy on the line said it was already blocked....told him i just got a text 2 minutes ago...said he would recheck and reblock.then texted 9999, got a response saying texts from 9099 have now been blocked, and even forwarded the message to [email protected] for the help

Yesterday I texted SPAM 9099 to the Sprint 9999 number and received a message "Thank you for reporting sent by 9099". Then a second message stating "Text messages from 9099 are now blocked". Unfortunately, I still received two additional text messages from 9099 4 hours later. This is very frustrating

Both my wife and I received text messages requesting us to call 928-493-0730 repeatedly. I called Pac-West Telecomm, as they control the line and reported it to them by calling 1-877-626-4325 and pressing option 1 for a live person - they knew which number I was reporting as soon I indicated that we were receiving unsolicited text messages. Pac-West had blocked the number and shut it down earlier, but the sender has now hacked into a computer, posing as Sprint and mimicked the customer service 4-digit orignation number and is still sending out texts. To block, send a text message 9999 with the following message (no charges apply):Block 9099Then forward original message to the following e-mail (no charges apply):[email protected]

I text-ed 9999 and they sent me the text that 9099 was now blocked. I wouldn't have thought much about it except that I paid my bill online earlier this evening and I use a Credit Union. I didn't panic, just Googled and found this website. Pretty cool. Anyway, Happy New Year and thanks for the information.

"customer issue, new generations federal credit union service frozen. please call at 928 493 0730"I have received this text message numerous times today: 10:32PM, 10:13PM, 8:51PM, 3:00PM, and yesterday (Dec. 28) at 10:18AM.This is annoying.

I called Sprint after I got about 5 texts from the 9099 number, and they said if you text "Block 9099" (no quotes)to 9999, it will block the texts from coming... after I sent the message I recieved a text back saying, "SprintFreeMsg: Text messages from "9099" are now blocked" Ben (who worked for Sprint and was very helpful) also said if they do persist to call back, and they have other ways to prevent them. Hope this helps!

Sprint customer here with a Virginia #. Got the same text at 9:05 PM Eastern, 12/29. I'm ignoring for now. Calling Pac-West Telecomm as recommended by J Thib. Thanks.

and yep I am a sprint customer
(928) 493-0730
Please call pac-west telecomm as they own the line and report it to them by calling 1-877-626-4325 and pressing option 1 for a live person - give them the number you recieved on the text and they will block that client and report them to the local police.I used SEARCHBUG.COM to get the info on who owns the line.

Meant to add, I'm a Sprint customer, too.

Sprint don't call the number, then they will know that your are there! Sprint did block that number for me when i called at *2.

Major SPAM trying to get CC info. Seem to be targeting SPRINT numbers. Texts are from 9099. The first few say: "New Generations alert. Please call 813 435 1482." Got that one twice. Then the next round say: "customer issue, new generations federal credit union service frozen. please call at 541 210 5546." Then the third round is same as second round but new number: 928 493 0730.OK PAY ATTENTION!!! FORWARD TO ALL YOU KNOW!!! HERE IS HOW TO STOP IT!!!!I have "connections" with high people in SPRINT. I just spoke with the head of the Security Department. 1. Anyone can go on FCC website and find out what "blocks" of numbers are assigned to which carriers (for example phone numbers 804-123-1000 through 804-123-9000 are assigned to Verizon, 804-456-1000 through 804-456-9000 to Sprint...etc...) so NO, sprint is not selling our numbers and no one broke into their system and stole our numbers. 2. Sprint can log the complaints, but they technically have no legal authority to do anything to the person/company/whatever, because the action is not being done directly to SPRINT. 3. What YOU need to do is tell your local police. This is a criminal matter and needs to be reported as such to the police so they can stop it. I know what you are thinking, they aren't going to care... well yeah, if one or two people say they got a spam text, your probably right, they won't care... BUT if everyone that gets the text calls their local police and reports... epidemic = action!!!!!!4. Make sure to save the texts in your phone! The police will probably need to see them or have you forward them to them. 5. Let EVERYONE know that they need to contact the local police (me personnally will be contacting the local and state police). Shoot, I might get real froggy and contact the local news as well.
